Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician"

The origins of the University of Bologna go way back, and it is considered to be the oldest university in the Western world. Its history is intertwined with that of the great names of science and literature, it is a keystone and a point of reference for European culture.

The Department "Giacomo Ciamician" originated from the Institute of Chemistry, which, in turn, derived from the oldest Italian Chair of Chemistry, established in Bologna by Ferdinando Marsili in the year 1737. The Department building was constructed in the Twenties of the past century on the design of Edoardo Collamarini (1863-1928), a renowned architect, who took into account the technical requirements indicated by Giacomo Ciamician (1857-1922).

Each Award will include a grant of 200 € for the student.

Past editions of the Workshop

Edition Location Tagline
Workshop 2016 Frascati, Italy "From research through industrial applications up to nuclear fusion plants"
Workshop 2017 Valsamoggia, Italy
"On the pulse of a revolution"
It is a word play evoking both the pulsed energy that supercapacitors produce and the idea of having one's finger "on the pulse" of something (that is, following the latest developments in a given field).
Workshop 2018 Salerno, Italy
"New roots for new plants"
It is a word play to stress that the roots of electrochemistry can lead to new applications and new performances. The logical path from the technology basics to the large power plants is followed in the workshop program.
Workshop 2019 Bologna, Italy
"Stories from the age of storage"
It is a word play summarizing the intention to present the most interesting success stories or potential success stories set in the new era of energy made possible by the new storage technologies.

Presentations and pictures from past workshops are available through the above links. If you have further nice pictures, do not hesitate to send them to us.

The previous events succeeded both in terms of technical quality and of attendance. We also received many encouraging feedbacks and invitations to organize a new edition in 2019.
